Qxmp

If you are a Linux or Unix workstation user looking for a media player, you might want to check out Qxmp. This Qt4-based player comes with MPlayer and offers a simple, compact, and clean interface.

With Qxmp installed, you can play a variety of media files, including .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, .avi, .asf, .mov, .rm, .ra, .divx, .mkv, .ogm, .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .mka, .wma, and .mp2 formats. It also supports playlists such as .m3u, .pls, .ram, .smi, .asx, .wax, and .wvx, as well as media streams directly from the internet, DVD, and audio CD (if Mplayer has been compiled with the cdda support).

One of the strong points of Qxmp is its "control panel," which features large and easily accessible buttons, always centered at the bottom of the window. There is no menubar or toolbar to clutter the interface. Additionally, Qxmp requires only Mplayer and Qt to run, without any need for a database, gstreamer, or taglib.
