RipCord Backup

RipCord is an incredibly useful tool for anyone looking to backup their files using the Rsync protocol. In the past, backing up files on a Mac using rsync would require long and cryptic commands on the terminal line, but RipCord removes the need for this and provides even more options.

Rsync is a protocol used for transferring files from one computer to another, and is available for free on all Mac/Linux/Unix computers and servers. What sets it apart is its speed and efficiency in running and transferring files. With rsync, if you backup a large text file and then make a change to just one word the next day, your backup will only upload that changed word instead of the whole document again.

To use RipCord, you'll need a backup server (either Linux or Mac) with rsync on and its default port open, as well as a user created on the backup server and appropriate writable permissions for the backup folder. On the computer being backed up, RipCord only works on Macs and requires that the firewall be open on the standard rsync port.
