Schema Crawler

Schema Crawler is a command-line tool that operates independently from the platform and operating system to generate a readable form of both the database schema as well as the data. With its output formats designed to be readily diff-able, the Schema Crawler API is capable of going beyond the standard JDBC metadata.

The project is available in different build methods to suit your specific requirements. The Ant build is a quick build that does not compile or execute any unit tests, while the Maven build is a more complete build that runs unit tests and generates the project website. The main targets of both builds include all.build and all.clean.

For users on Eclipse, Schema Crawler consists of two Eclipse projects, schemacrawler and dbconnector, where dbconnector must be imported to use schemacrawler.

This release of Schema Crawler contains several notable updates such as retrieving database properties, including system data types and UDTs, and a new command (maximum_schema) that provides comprehensive details of the schema, including database system properties. Several bugs have also been fixed, including issues with the merge rows option and appending output for multiple runs of Schema Crawler, as well as resolving an SQL exception with the Oracle Database 10g Express Edition driver when generating views.
