Schreibchen was designed with the goal of creating a word processor that is accessible to individuals with disabilities, as well as children and others who struggle with traditional text editors. One of the driving forces behind its creation was a request from a user with a disabled sister who needed a simplified version of the popular Schreiben word processor with larger, more accessible buttons, as well as a simplified GUI.

Schreibchen aims to meet the needs of such individuals, and in order to do so, feedback from users is essential. Whether you are a disabled user, a teacher or caregiver working with disabled individuals, or simply someone who appreciates a simplified interface, we want to hear from you. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for customization that would help Schreibchen better meet your needs.

The advantages of Schreibchen extend beyond just accessibility, however. The application can also open and write in the new .docx format, as well as in documents for use with OpenOffice. Additionally, documents can be exported as .doc files with images. Schreibchen also includes a FullscreenView option for distraction-free writing, while Snippets can be easily added to documents by dragging them from the Snippets Window. Furthermore, text can be highlighted for emphasis.

It is important to note that the free demo version of Schreibchen is not time-limited, but does support only one file format. The paid full version, however, incorporates many more formats and can be installed on any personal Mac. Schools and associations may also request a volume license.
