Senet

Senet is a classic board game that dates back to around 3,500 BC in ancient Egypt. It was enjoyed by people of all social classes, including the pharaohs, and was believed to have divine protection for those who played it well. However, the rules were never written down due to its popularity. Over the years, scholars made educated guesses and Senet selected the best ideas from each to create a comprehensive rule set.

The objective of Senet is to move all of your pawns off the board before your opponent. It is a race game similar to Backgammon, Pachisi, or Sorry!. Players roll a single die to determine how far their pawn can move during their turn. If a pawn lands on an opponent's pawn, players switch places. Players must also watch out for obstacles, such as pawns in a row that cannot be landed on or jumped over.

Senet offers special squares marked by hieroglyphics that can either help or hurt players. These special squares require certain numbers to roll to escape or protect themselves from opponents. The worst square sends pawns back several squares.
