Serveez

Serveez is an impressive server framework that is designed to provide robust routines and assistance for implementing IP-based servers. It supports TCP, UDP, and ICMP protocols and provides the option of using named pipes for all connection-oriented protocols. A major benefit of this framework is that all protocols can be run on the same port.

This software package includes a range of servers, including an HTTP server, IRC server, Gnutella spider, and a few others. Notably, the application is single-threaded but uses helper processes for concurrent name resolution and ident lookups.

To install Serveez, one must have GNU guile available. Unpacking the distribution tarball is easy, and users can do so using GNU tar or another tar application. After unpacking the tarball, one needs to switch to the source directory and configure the source package to suit their system. We recommend using --enable-opt unless there are good reasons not to do so.

Compilation is straightforward and can be done using a "make" command. Finally, after compiling, installing Serveez is simple - just use "make install" command.

This new release comes with a range of improvements; for example, the package is now available as a relocatable RPM, and a transparent codec interface has been implemented. Windows users will be pleased to learn that the named pipe interface now works on this platform. Additionally, the software package supports virtually unlimited socket structures and faster HTTP file cache. Serveez provides examples and documentation for Guile server, and Guile servers can be enabled via --enable-guile-server. Lastly, loadable server modules are supported with this package.
