May 12, 2008
Silver Shield PM Control for Linux is an app that enables the use of the GEMBIRD SiS-PM device on a Linux platform.
Version 2.7
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English
Homepage sispmctl.sourceforge.net
Developed by Mondrian Nuessle and Andreas Neuper
Silver Shield PM Control for Linux is an exceptional application that enables the usage of GEMBIRD SiS-PM device under Linux operating systems. This device is an intelligent surge protector with advanced features capable of handling 4 sockets that can be managed via a USB port on your PC.

As a free software, Silver Shield PM Control for Linux comes with absolutely no warranty, and users are required to read the details in the License file. If you would like to redistribute the software, you can do so under certain conditions as stated in the License file. The developers extend their thanks to Gembird for their support, the libusb project, the USB snoopy team, Andreas Neuper, and all the contributors.

Silver Shield PM Control for Linux software is included in the driver package from Gembird and available from the Gentoo/Portage tree (courtesy Wolfram Schlich).

To install the application, you need to have libusb-0.15 or a newer version installed on your system. If you have an older version of libusb, it might work, but you'll need to tweak configure. In the source code distribution, sis_pmctl is the only available option. To install, follow these steps:
tar xzvf sispm_ctl-2.1.tar.gz
cd sispm_ctl-2.1
./configure
make
make install

Note that the compiled application is named sispmctl since version 2.0 without an underscore. Installing the application places sis_pmctl in /usr/local/bin, and to install the application to a different directory, use ./configure --prefix=/your/preferred/dir. The web-interface skins are installed under $prefix/httpd/sispm_ctl/skin?; the default skin is pre-selected with the doc symbolic link in the $prefix/httpd/sispm_ctl directory.

Silver Shield PM Control for Linux provides various options, such as scanning all universal serial buses for devices with the ID 04B4:FD11, staying listening on the network port for http protocol or switching the buzzer on and off, to name a few. Users can also choose to print "ON" and "OFF" or "1" and "0" instead. The latest release comes with additional device IDs to support new devices sold, added power status command for plugs and initial support for IDs, alongside bug fixes.

Overall, Silver Shield PM Control for Linux is an excellent application that offers comprehensive device management and control for the GEMBIRD SiS-PM device under Linux. With various options and features, it is perfect for users who want to manage their devices efficiently.
