SimpleLogBook is a basic pilot's logbook application that is currently in its early development stage. Although it only records fundamental flight information, it can calculate total flight time across one or more flights. SimpleLogBook stores flight data as an XML file, and it has plans to expand its time calculating feature in the immediate future. The application aims to allow pilots to calculate the total time spent flying each plane type, in each operating capability, and under which weather conditions.
In the long term, SimpleLogBook plans to incorporate add-ons such as filters to limit the flights displayed, the ability to associate more complex data, specifically photos, with each flight, and a function to print the record book. Running the application is straightforward; click on the icon, and the primary flight window will be displayed upon startup. Logbooks can be created, loaded, and saved via the file menu, while the flights menu offers the functionality of adding, deleting, and editing flights.
Right-clicking on the flights table will duplicate the menu, providing quick access to the menu's features. The new/edit flight dialog contains all the fields found in a standard paper logbook. Fields such as the pilot's name, aircraft type, departure and destination airports, and other standard fields are readily available. Saving changes made is as simple as clicking OK; clicking cancel will undo any unsaved changes.
