Splashy for Edgy is a software that uses libdirectfb to paint graphic images directly onto framebuffers. This technology allows for high-resolution images and fast rendering speeds, making it well-suited for graphic design and multimedia projects.
Splashy is a boot splash program that allows you to paint graphic images directly to framebuffers without the need for patching the Linux kernel. It uses libdirectfb and is perfect for Edgy projects.
In terms of VGA settings, Splashy offers 4 options for screen resolutions: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. It also provides various color options ranging from 256 colors to 16M colors. For instance, to achieve 1024x768 at 16-bit, you can pass an argument to the kernel such as "vga=791", which can also be represented in base16 form as "vga=0x317".
To edit your boot-loader, you need to perform specific actions depending on your system configuration. For instance, for Grub in Debian, you can look for "#kopt" and append "vga=0x317" to that line. Then run "update-grub". Other distros require editing the kernel root= line appropriately. Moreover, some base requirements to run Splashy include libc6, libdirectfb-0.9-24, libglib2.0-0, zlib1g, and lsb-base or lsb.
In the latest release of Splashy, we edited the previous changelog entry of 0.1.5 to fix the bug that was incorrectly closed. The right bug number is #314162. Furthermore, we made various changes to the debian/control.in file, such as replacing all dependencies for ${shlibs:Depends} since it's auto-generated, adding build-dependency of libglib2.0-dev, including splashy-themes package, and more. The splashy-themes package doesn't include any binaries and is purely for suggestory purposes.
