To use Stratus, there are several requirements that must be met, including having a Linux kernel 2.6.15 or later, FUSE 2.6 or later, Perl (developed on version 5.8.8, but may work on earlier versions), SQLite 3, and specific Perl modules including Fuse 0.07 or later and DBD-SQLite 1.12 or later.
To install Stratus, create a directory called " .stratus" in the home directory and copy the contents of the skel directory to it. Additionally, symbolic links to media directories or any other directories that require organization must be created in the "~/.stratus/links" file pool.
Once installed and organized, Stratus can be used by running the command "/path/to/stratusfs /path/to/mountpoint" to mount the software. When finished, run "fusermount -u /path/to/mountpoint" to unmount.
As with any software, there are limitations to keep in mind. Adding new files or renaming existing ones may not be recognized by Stratus until the directory is remounted. Copying symlinks does not work, so new symlinks must be created instead. A high volume of rapid symlink moves can cause "ghost" links with incorrect tags to appear, which can be resolved by remounting the filesystem. Finally, listing the root directory can be slow if there are a vast number of files in the file pool.
Despite these limitations, Stratus remains a unique and useful tool that keeps files organized according to user-defined tags, without risk of file damage.
