StyleSheet Collection is a collection of AppleScripts designed for use with QuarkXPress to simplify the process of creating stylesheets. The software offers users an easy way to design and apply styles, saving time and streamlining the production process.
I recently had the pleasure of testing out StyleSheet, a set of 10 AppleScripts for QuarkXPress that are specifically designed to handle various stylesheet issues. Dedicated entirely to offering a better experience for those dealing with QuarkXPress, StyleSheet has a lot of great features for users.
First up is Set Font of 1st Char, which sets the font of the first character of a paragraph – styled with an indicated stylesheet – to a font of your choosing. This feature proves particularly useful for paragraphs that contain a drop cap.
Next up is Find Change w/Check, a script that searches for occurrences of an indicated stylesheet and replaces each occurrence with another stylesheet. You can search and replace either in the current story or throughout the document.
One of my favorite features is Make Run-in Heads, which applies text styling to the run-in head of every paragraph styled with the indicated stylesheet. To make this script work without user interaction, simply set the styleToSearchFor to the requested stylesheet name and terminationCharacter to the requested character ending the run-in heads.
Users can also enjoy Add/Style ParaEndChars, which adds indicated characters to the end of every paragraph of a story that is styled with an indicated stylesheet. Meanwhile, Re-Apply Certain Style sets the stylesheet of every paragraph of a story or selection, styled with an indicated stylesheet, to "no style" and then re-applies the original stylesheet of the paragraph. This process removes any added character level formatting in the found paragraphs.
Copy Run-in Heads applies the text styling of the current text selection to the run-in head of every paragraph of the current story styled with the indicated stylesheet. This is followed by Recto/Verso Stylesheet Replace, which checks for every occurrence of a chosen stylesheet in a text flow. If the occurrence is on a specified type of page (whether recto or verso), it changes to a second indicated stylesheet.
Re-Apply All sets the stylesheet of every paragraph of a story to "no style" and then re-applies the original stylesheet of the paragraph. This process removes any added character level formatting in the paragraph. Finally, Read/Apply Next Style reads the next style property of the stylesheet of each paragraph starting with the first paragraph and applies that next style to the following paragraph in the text flow.
