Sync2cd is an incremental archiving tool that can be used for backing up complete filesystem hierarchies to multiple backup media like CD-Rs. This software is capable of archiving files incrementally, storing only the new or changed files during the archive process. It supports all entity types including directories, files, symlinks, named pipes, sockets, block, and character devices.

The command line interface offers several options with commands such as creating a new archive descriptor, outputting a graft list for an archive, printing archive information, restoring from archives, and copying files of an archive to a destination. There are also several options available for operating on archive number N, adding glob GLOB to pattern list, and setting archive medium size to N, among others.

With the latest release, Sync2cd has added two configuration options. The Discarded() option lets you specify discarded archive media, which means you no longer have to keep all descriptors around when creating a new archive. The Compress() option enables compression of archive descriptors and defaults to "on".
