I recently had a chance to try out TagComplete, a software designed for automatic music recognition and completion of metadata. It was fascinating to see how this software leverages a database of music maintained by the community to recognize and complete the metadata for my music files.
The user interface of TagComplete is intuitive and easy to use. The software guides the user through three simple steps to get started. Firstly, I was asked to select the directories in which my music files were stored. Secondly, TagComplete downloaded and updated the part of the database that was required for local title recognition. Finally, the title recognition process was performed on my local PC, and the metadata from my selected files was anonymously compared with the community database.
One of the things I appreciated during the process was having the ability to review and accept the differences found in the metadata between my local files and the community database. This gave me a sense of control over the process, as well as an opportunity to learn more about the music in my collection.
