TagsTreeMaps

I recently tried out TagsTreeMaps, a software that uses advanced research on TreeMaps and community tagging systems, such as tag clouds. It's a great solution for browsing through large amounts of tagged information. I found that it was often difficult to get a handle on a large number of tags using other solutions, like tag clouds. These present a static approach to presenting and differentiating tags, which can make it challenging to find appropriate tags for browsing information.

What sets TagsTreeMaps apart is that it not only allows users to clearly mark the most commonly used tags, but it also delivers a plug-in architecture for filtering and preprocessing tags. For filtering tags, there are currently two available plug-ins: one that filters tags by min/max usage, and another that filters tags by name with WordNet meaning extension.

For preprocessing tags, there are several plug-ins available, including one that clusters tags based on predefined groups of tags, as well as a plug-in that uses string similarity distances. Additionally, there's a post-processing Treemap plug-in that allows users to color tags so that they are more distinctive and easier to read.

Overall, I found TagsTreeMaps to be an excellent tool for handling large amounts of tagged information. One note to keep in mind is that TagsTreeMaps is licensed and provided under the terms of the BSD License.
