Testmaster

Testmaster is an outstanding software tool designed for testcase reporting, logging, and test automation. It is similar to the highly-priced test director commercial product. This unique software came to existence while I was working in a testbed, and I was required to execute testing by marking some printed sheets, emailing my progress every day, and providing a list of tests that I had executed.

Here are some of the key features of Testmaster:

- It's fully web-based
- Hierarchical management of testsuites (Department, Project, Testsuite)
- Hierarchal management of testsuite administration
- Testcases can be imported from Word documents, CSV files, manual entry, or SQL
- Copy of testsuites
- Testcase logging, including state (pass/fail/hold, etc.), tester notes, trouble ticket IDs, and change history
- Full statistics for each testsuite (execution count, state counts, percentage complete)
- Two types of email reports
- Full run log and change history for each testcase
- Full testcase/testsuite search facility
- An administrative interface
- Written in Perl
- Customizable web templates
- Test automation interface

Testmaster software tool is easily accessible to run on Linux and uses Apache to serve webpages, Postgresql as the database, Antiword to convert M$ docs, and perl as the development language.

In the latest Testmaster release, there is a fixing of the bug in DoSql, which only showed up on specific DBI versions. This prevented people from logging in, but thanks to Chint for his patience in tracing down the problem.
