The CopyPirate

The CopyPirate is a satirical game that parodies the RIAA and their opponents, the "pirates." The objective is to copy six pieces of music while avoiding the RIAA zombies and then escape into the intertubes. As this is the first version of the game, it is currently in its alpha stage. The gameplay is not yet final and may not be entirely fun.

The backstory of the game follows the GNU Intergalactic Mercenary Police Force, which is responsible for protecting the port town of Piratebay as part of its free trade protection agreement. However, every year the police force leaves the town for the necessary yearly GNU migration to the south breeding ground of the Internet. One year, the RIAA zombie horde and their vampire lawyer master heard about the migration and invaded the town, spreading US jurisdiction over Pirate Bay. The protection agencies and self-defense forces in the town were easily overwhelmed, and anarchy ensued.

Captain Jack, upon learning of the subjugation of his home port, gathered his crew of motley copypirates to take back his town. Thus began the epic adventure of the CopyPirate.

To play the game, users will need to meet certain requirements, including Ruby, Rubygame, Rbgooey, SDL_mixer, SDL_image, SDL_gfx, SDL_ttf, and SDL. Once these are installed, users can unzip the game files to their desired location and then run thecopypirate.rb to play. Players will use the arrow keys to move around the playing field, avoiding zombies while also collecting musical items. If zombies touch the player, health will be drained, so players must be careful. Once six items have been collected, players can go southwest to escape into the internet. The game features unique visuals that set it apart from other games in the genre.
