The Lock

The Lock is a comprehensive software solution for providing users with audit and monitoring capabilities, access control, internet security, and system security. Designed for computers running Windows XP, Server 2003, Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, The Lock now supports 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

While running The Lock on Windows 9x/ME may still work, it is no longer supported. The Lock is compliant with PL-1 to Chapter 8, NISPOM and meets various regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley Access Control, Intrusion Detection, and PC Auditing requirements, and HIPPA, Access, Authorization, and Security control requirements.

The user security is group-based and configurable by any members of the Administrators group. It can define system policies, logon times, internet access times, web site restrictions, and access to local resources such as programs, files, folders, and even removable media (USB, flash, etc.) that can be restricted as soon as it is plugged into the system.

Additionally, The Lock allows restricting printer access in any Windows application and screen capture via the Print Screen key. It comes equipped with logging features that record web sites visited, programs run, and security violations occurring while the user is logged in, including support for the Firefox browser.

Passwords can be verified on the local Windows system, a Windows server, or a remote Lock Security Manager server. For password verification on Windows XP, The Lock supports Netware Server. It also includes a cloning feature that simplifies network installations with just one step, and when used in conjunction with the Lock Security Manager Server, remote systems can stay up-to-date.

The Security Manager tools allow for remote monitoring of any systems running The Lock and connecting to the Security Manager. Lastly, active password monitoring combats modification of Windows user passwords done outside of the Windows GUI, usually with a bootable hacking disk.
