Thrust

Thrust is now available as a software remake of the classic Commodore 64 game. This version is available for Un*x and MSDOS operating systems. Players must navigate through a cave to retrieve a heavy Klystron Pod and return it safely to space, avoiding obstacles such as walls and enemy artillery along the way.

The game features a startup menu, consisting of levels 1 through 6, and all the game engine elements such as scrolling, shooting, explosions, shields, and more. Players can enjoy reversed gravity when they successfully complete the final level, making for a unique gameplay experience.

Additionally, the software offers scoring and a high-score list to keep track of progress. There are sliding doors operated by small buttons, stages within a level, demo mode if the game isn't touched for a while, and configurable keys to customize gameplay to your liking.

Furthermore, the software supports GGI, and finally removes the 8 bpp limitation through use of display-palemu. It also supports X, and requires 8 bpp PseudoColor with MIT shared memory used if found. In future releases, the software developers plan to further improve the scrolling routines, add support for non-8 bpp pseudocolor visuals, add blinking stars, and joystick steering.

The latest version of Thrust comes with GGI support, which finally takes Thrust out of the 8-bits-per-pixel jail. There are also various improvements in graphics, making it even closer to the original. Keyboard configuration changes are now saved in .thrustrc, and Automake is used for building. Players looking for an updated version of a classic game will enjoy playing Thrust.
