TkTag lets users edit and modify ID3 headers in mp3 files through a Tk/Perl application.
TkTag is a software application designed using the Tk/Perl framework that offers users the ability to modify and edit ID3 headers in mp3 files. Apart from manually editing and modifying tags, the application features the ability to generate tags from filenames, or rename files based on tag fields, thanks to the input and output mask setup.
As a co-op student, I found myself tasked with the challenge of constructing test suites and custom testing tools using Perl as the primary programming language. I saw this as an opportunity to learn more about Perl, and what better way to do that than to create a small project in my free time? After working on TkTag for a week, I was able to create a useful application that I hope others will find useful.
If TkTag appeals to you and you find it useful, I plan on adding more features to the application in the future. One of these features will be to port the current version to the GTK+ graphics toolkit which shouldn't be too difficult after investing in a good book on the subject. I also plan to add more support for constructing and modifying playlists which should make the application even more versatile.
