trash-cli

Trash-cli is a command-line interface trashcan that follows freedesktop.org specifications. This software can remember the name, original path, date of deletion, and permissions for each trashed file. It also has the ability to interoperate with KDE Trash.

To remove a file called "foo" and place it in the trashcan, use the command $ trash foo. To view all contents of the trashcan, use the command $ list-trash. This will display a list of trashed files with their respective dates and original paths.

If a user wants to search for a specific file within the trashcan, they can use the command $ list-trash | grep foo to search for all instances of the file "foo".

To restore a trashed file, use the command $ restore-trash followed by the index of the file to restore. The command prompt will then ask which file to restore and display a numbered list of trashed files. For example, to restore the file "foo" from the list, use the command $ restore-trash 4 and then use the command $ ls to confirm the file's restoration.

Users can also empty the entire trashcan using the command $ empty-trash or remove files that have been in the trashcan longer than a specified number of days using the command $ empty-trash . For instance, if a user wants to remove files that have been in the trashcan for more than seven days, they can use the command $ empty-trash 7. The software will then ask whether or not to proceed with the action, and if the user chooses to proceed, the list of trashed files will update accordingly.
