Type Fixer

Type Fixer is a software developed for Mac OS X, primarily addressing an issue where plain text files produced by TextEdit can inadvertently become SimpleText files. Consequently, double-clicking on such a file will cause Classic to start up. Additionally, the creator and type codes for any files that end with ".txt" are altered to "????" resulting in TextEdit becoming the default application. The software comes with an AppleScript droplet, which can be opened and customized to suit your needs. By modifying the codes and filter criteria contained in the script, you can create either a Classic Applet for use on Mac OS 9 or earlier, or a Mac OS X Applet for the current version of Mac OS X. Overall, Type Fixer is an incredibly useful software solution, especially if you regularly work with plain text files produced by TextEdit on Mac OS X.
