ULTILEX is a powerful and versatile Live CD Linux distribution that contains several other Live Linux distributions, including Slax, Finnix, Puppy, and DSL. It allows you to easily boot up from either CD/DVD or a USB device of your choice. Upon bootup, you are presented with a beautiful and intuitive startup screen that lets you select the Live Linux distribution that you want to use.
The current version of ULTILEX is 2.1.0, and it "wraps" several Live Linux distributions, including Slax 6.0.9, Finnix 92.1, System Rescue CD 1.1.6, Puppy Linux 4.1.2. and Damn Small Linux 4.1.10.
One of the most interesting features of ULTILEX is its ability to be easily installed on a USB flash device. All changes made during the live session can then be saved on this device. This includes file modifications and installing/removing modules, and all changes made will be saved and stored on the USB flash drive.
To install ULTILEX on a USB flash device, the following steps can be taken (from Slax):
1. Copy all files and folders from the CD to the root folder of your USB flash device.
2. Execute "/boot/bootinst.sh" (for Linux), or "bootinst.bat" (for Windows).
3. Sit back and relax because you are now ready to boot up ULTILEX right from your USB flash device!
