Unhide utilities

Unhide Utilities is a software package that includes two applications designed to change the visibility of files and folders. The first is Unhide Desktop Folder, which allows you to make the Desktop Folder visible in the network again if you have installed OS 9.1 or 9.2. This feature is handy as the folder becomes invisible on the network after installation. To use the app, just drop your volumes onto it, and their Desktop Folders will re-appear when viewed as mounted AppleShare volumes.

Unhide Desktop Folder also has an additional feature that allows you to have the folder renamed, so it appears like any other folder in the root directory of your hard disk. This feature ensures that the items of the folder disappear from your desktop area, but you can move them back using the Finder. To use this feature, hold down the Option key when dropping a volume onto the tool.

The second tool in the bundle is Change File Visibility. This tool is handy when you want to make any hidden file or folder visible, or hide them again. It is especially useful for getting rid of all the OS X files and folders that come pre-installed on your Macs, which often clutter your disk space. To use Change File Visibility, drag and drop your hard disk icon onto the tool. This action will display all the files and folders on the root of your disk.

You can then use the checkboxes for all hidden items such as dev, bin, etc., to make them visible, and then use the Finder to move them all to the trash. By using Unhide Utilities, you take control of your files and folders' visibility to ensure that only what you need is visible, leading to better organization, and improved performance of your Mac.
