UniPKG is a modular package manager known as Universal PaCkaGe manager, which makes package installation, updating, and removal easy on all supported operating systems.
UniPKG is a modular package manager that supports various package formats like RPM, DEB, and Slack's TGZ. The software is self-sufficient, and it doesn't depend on any of the distribution's tools, making it a reliable package management tool. Furthermore, UniPKG reintegrated various formats like cpio and tar. In the future, ArchLinux's package format is also planned to be included in the software.
It's worth noting that the software is incredibly lightweight, offering only 160kB binaries for its core, migration tool (unipkg-trans), three package handlers (Deb, RPM and Slack), and five database backends (File, Directory, XML file, Debian r/o, and Slack r/o). UniPKG's dependencies are limited to zlib and libc, and optionally, libxml2-0 (unipkg-xmlfile backend) and sqlite3 (unipkg-sqlite backend).
UniPKG underwent a thorough testing process using Valgrind, which has helped to minimize the chance of memory leaks or other memory-related issues. Besides, it is licensed under the GNU/GPLv2 and guarantees its users that it is a free software tool.
The latest UniPKG version comes equipped with an archive API that features CPIO, TAR, and AR archive format support. Likewise, the package handlers have been rewritten to use this new API. Additionally, the new update includes SUIG/SGID missing while unpacking bug fixes, preliminary LZMA (Larhzu) support, and an entirely rewritten RPM package handler. Work has also started on netlib and UniGET, and several other bug fixes were implemented in this stable release.
