Unlock_ALD

This software review is for Unlock_ALD, a useful application designed to solve the problem of errors when opening modified Adobe pdf-forms. It is quite common when pdf-forms have been modified by third-party tools, to experience errors when opening them with Acrobat Reader. These errors usually manifest as an error message that reads, "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Acrobat Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."

This error makes the pdf-form unusable as a form, and it now only functions as a simple document. However, with Unlock_ALD, such errors can be avoided. This application converts pdf-forms created by Adobe products, such as LiveCycle Designer, and the converted pdf-form can be used with any third-party tool/sdk without further problems. Additionally, it can be opened seamlessly again with the Adobe Reader or other Adobe products later.

Unlock_ALD also features an internal addon that enables the stripping of any rights from a pdf-file, even if a main password is set. Although a user password can prevent this function, it is rare to find a file with a user password set.

Unlock_ALD is designed as a console application (exe) for windows, meaning it can be integrated into nearly any programming language, script-/batch-language, and even manually on the commandline or via explorer context "send to." The software package contains two versions, 32 bit, and 64 bit for compatibility with various systems. In conclusion, Unlock_ALD is an excellent tool for anyone struggling with Adobe pdf-form issues caused by third-party tool modifications.
