VelaClock

VelaClock is a sophisticated software that offers more than just a clock function. It displays the level of natural light, moon phase information, local times, and country flags for cities throughout the world, in addition to the current time. The software is equipped with a daylight bar that provides the user with a picture of the 24-hour natural light, which includes bright daylight, three levels of twilight, and night for the current day. This feature enables users to gain a better sense of daylight hours for cities both faraway and nearby.

One of the most remarkable features of VelaClock is that it displays an image of the moon, as seen in the sky above the currently selected city. This image accurately depicts the angle at which the moon's crescent appears to be rotated from the vertical. To ensure that the software provides accurate results, the moon's angle is updated every minute, and the illuminated region of the moon is also updated every minute, resulting in the correct depiction of the moon's phase. The software also displays the name of the current moon phase, as well as the local times for the next and previous phase events, i.e., new, quarter, and full.

VelaClock relies on a public domain time zone database called "tz database" to display local times accurately. The database is arguably the most accurate time zone database available for maintaining the software's functionality. Moreover, the software shows the relative time, displaying the number of hours the selected city is ahead or behind the current time zone, as set in the System Preferences. Lastly, for each city displayed, the corresponding country flag is shown, making it even more convenient for users to identify their desired location.
