VideoWall display is a database administration software designed for creating and managing multiple video walls.
I recently had the opportunity to experience the incredible ZKM installation called "Digital Body Automata". This innovative exhibit featured a unique realtime "blue-screen" driver software that was used to construct an interactive videowall consisting of 16 TVs, with interactive content displayed on 12 of them.
The system components that were utilized in this installation included 2 sets of 8 TV screens arranged in a row on each side of the mural, 5 Pentium200 PCs with 3 Matrox VGA video cards each, and a Matrox Meteor framegrabber card. Additionally, there were 4 cameras imaging a red cloth screen positioned below the TVs, as well as multiple VGA-to-TV converters, video splitters, cables, and other necessary materials. To support these components, the installation utilized RedHat Linux and a custom X-Server that supported 3 video cards (which were necessary at the time).
The TVs themselves displayed a cover image that resembled stone texture. However, once an observer entered the space, a virtual shadow would be cast onto the TVs, revealing a detailed image underneath. This "shadow" was calculated using the obscured red sloth in the image path of the tiny wide-angle cameras that were hidden below the TVs. Overall, this installation was an incredible display of technology and innovation that I would highly recommend experiencing firsthand.
