This software was initially developed for personal use, to have an image viewer option without any licensing restrictions on Windows operating system. Despite the availability of numerous image viewers on Linux, Vidigi was specifically designed to cater to the needs of Windows users.
Being a developer who primarily works on Windows, the Windows binary was tested extensively for optimal performance. However, Vidigi provides a Linux binary for convenience, but its compatibility with other distros cannot be fully guaranteed. In case contributors want to build a version for other operating systems, they can communicate their interest.
Vidigi can handle popular image formats such as bmp, jpg, png, mng, xpm, and others. Although, due to licensing restrictions, Vidigi's version below is unable to process GIF images. Using QT's built-in image handling, the addition of a QT image plugin for a specific file type will extend Vidigi's support for that file type. As of writing, the Linux build of QT4 natively supports GIF format, whereas the GIF plugin for QT/Win is still under development.
