Virtual GameBoy is a Nintendo GameBoy emulator software that allows users to play GameBoy games on their computer.
Virtual GameBoy is an incredible program that allows gamers to emulate the Nintendo GameBoy handheld console on their computer. Apart from emulating the GameBoy, VGB can also run Super GameBoy and GameBoy Color games on a range of computing platforms like PCs, Macs, Unix boxes, and PocketPCs.
The program also helps in debugging GameBoy software, without any need for expensive development systems. I developed VGB in 1995 after finding some GameBoy programming information on the internet. Having prior experience with the fMSX emulator was a plus while making VGB. During that time, emulation was still a novelty, and VGB became the first usable video game emulator available.
Since its creation, VGB has progressed to support every type of GameBoy hardware and cartridges along with add-ons that include GameLink, Pocket Printer, Rumble Pack, and Super GameBoy, among others. While I made the VGB source code open to the public initially, many others started their own GameBoy emulators after basing them on my code. However, since version 0.8, the source code isn't public anymore, but I still share it occasionally, given that the person asking is polite and I like their project.
