Window Tint

This software called Window Tint was actually inspired by a feature in an astronomy program known as Equinox, called "Night Vision". Its function was to tint the screen red so that telescope viewing was not disrupted while working outside. The idea interested me, and I wanted to use it not only for astronomy software but also for everything else. Although my implementation is not the same as Equinox's feature, I want to share what I have developed and allow others to enjoy working without disturbing their significant other at night.

Upon launching Window Tint, it creates a tinted layer that shades your computer screen. The program's preferences panel is the only interface available. In the preferences panel, there are three settings available - tint color, transparency, and light sensor. Tint color sets the color for the tinted layer, transparency determines the "thick" the color is, and light sensor use allows you to change transparency based on how dark your surroundings are. This feature only applies to laptops that have a backlit screen. The transparency value calculated by the light sensor setting is averaged with the user-set transparency value.

However, if you don't like the sensor setting, or if it isn't working correctly, you can turn it off. I'm not sure if I'm using a published API call from Apple to read the light sensor value, so it's possible that it may not work in the future, even though I've taken the steps necessary to prevent errors in case of any changes made by Apple. Therefore, you can turn this feature on or off by using the default commands below.

On: defaults write com.cherry.thomas.WindowTint sensor -bool true

Off: defaults write com.cherry.thomas.WindowTint sensor -bool false.

Overall, Window Tint is a simple yet useful software that makes working comfortably at night possible for its users.
