Secure Eraser is a software that helps to prevent the recovery of deleted files by erasing the free space on hard disks, SSDs and USB flash drives. It provides an efficient and effective way to protect sensitive information by securely wiping the data from the device.

Deleting a file does not actually delete its content, but rather marks the space the file occupied on the disk as 'free'. It may take a long time for another file to be allocated that space or part of it.
The time it takes to wipe a volume is reliant on volume size, speed of your computer, amount of RAM, and the number of passes you specify. The more passes selected, the longer the wipe process will take, with eight passes taking approximately eight times longer than one pass.
To work efficiently, this application creates temporary files on the drives being wiped. If you prefer a drive other than your user account, you can choose a folder in which this app can store temporary files. The root folder is usually the most convenient place for this. The files created by the application will be cleaned-up automatically after the free space has been successfully wiped, or the process is terminated using the "Stop" button.
If the temporary files created by the application are not deleted, you can simply re-select the drives and then click "Clean up." You will need to supply the folder(s) you choose initially (if applicable), and then you will regain any lost disk space.
