WMBiff is an applet for WindowMaker that shows the number of unread and read messages in up to five mailboxes.
WMBiff is a handy WindowMaker docking utility that provides you with the ability to display the number of total messages count or the number of unread mail messages count in different mailboxes. With this software, you can define actions to be executed when new mail arrives such as playing a sound file, fetching email from a remote server, and executing your mail reader with a single mouse click.
Another one of WMBiff's features is its ability to poll the output of shell commands, making it easy to extend its functionality with shell scripts. Currently, WMBiff supports Unix-style, maildir, pop3, APOP, IMAP, and IMAPS mailboxes, as well as Licq and GnomeICU history files.
Installation of WMBiff is straightforward as the `configure' shell script automatically guesses correct values for various system-dependent variables used during compilation. It uses these values to create a `makefile' in each directory of the package and may also create one or more `.h' files containing system-dependent definitions. Finally, it creates a shell script `config.status' that lets you run the current configuration in the future.
Compiling the package is easy too. After `cd'ing to the directory containing the source code, type `./configure' to begin the configuration process, followed by `make' to compile the package, and optionally `make check' to run self-tests. Finally, type `make install' to install the programs, data files, and documentation. If you need to clean up the source code directory, type `make clean' to remove binaries and object files, and `make distclean' to remove configure files.
The newest version of WMBiff offers GNUTLS 1.2 support and minor bug fixes that make it even more reliable and user-friendly.
