WMeyes

WMeyes is a simple but fun application that really adds personality to your desktop. This software sits in the WindowMaker dock and tracks your cursor with a pair of cartoonish eyes. Although it was designed for WindowMaker, it can work in all window managers, but in that case, you might as well use xeyes.

The latest release of WMeyes has some new features that make it a worthy addition to your software arsenal. Firstly, it now supports running external programs upon clicking on the eyes. This is a great way to quickly launch programs that you use frequently. The command you enter will be fed directly to the shell, so you can use shell metacharacters or whatever else you need, but you will have to escape them properly.

One thing to note is that wmeyes does not automatically background the program, so you will have to do that manually. For example, you can use the 'xmag &' command to run an xmag whenever the eyes are clicked on. Or, to show the number of lines with the word "foo" in them in your mail spool, you can use the 'xmessage `grep -w foo $MAIL | wc -l` &' command. Alternatively, you can use the 'xterm' command to stop wmeyes from working until you finish with a shell. Lastly, you can use the 'xset dpms force off' command to blank the screen when the eyes are clicked on.

Another great addition to WMeyes is the support for multiple displays at once. You can use the -d, -display, or --display options as many times as you want to customize it to your liking. Overall, WMeyes is a fun and versatile software that can add some life to your desktop.
