Word Checker software utilizes open-source word lists from SOWPODS or TWL for easy and accurate word checking.
I recently came across Travel Scrabble, and while it's a great game to play while on vacation, the task of lugging around a physical dictionary can be cumbersome. This is why I decided to create my own solution while on a long flight: a simple widget that can check scrabble words against a dictionary.
The widget is incredibly user-friendly - all you have to do is type in the word and hit enter. Within seconds, you'll receive a red or green indicator, indicating whether or not the word is valid. The software uses word lists that are readily available for SOWPODS or TWL. SOWPODS combines the valid British and American English word lists, while TWL is the North American list from 2006. You have the option to select which list, or both, to use depending on your preference.
It's worth noting that depending on where you live, the trademark for Scrabble may be owned by either Hasbro or Mattel. Due to legal restrictions, it's best to steer clear of using the Scrabble name in any product name. This is why I chose to keep things simple and call the widget "SOWPODS/TWL Word Checker."
