XPixMap

XPixMap is a software tool that consists of an ASCII image format and a C library. This format is designed to store color images (X Pixmap) in a portable and powerful way. Though XPM isn't an X Consortium standard, it's already functioning as a de facto standard. It is currently used in many applications for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. A number of vendors also distribute the XPM library as contributed software on the platforms they sell. Additionally, the Common Desktop Environment urges the storage of icons in either XBM or XPM format. As a result, Motif 2.0 from OSF includes the XPM library, so XPM can be utilized alongside XBM.

XPM is not associated with dates in any sense, and it is not impacted by them. This aspect makes XPM library Y2K compliant, providing an added layer of convenience for its users. Obtaining XPM would involve uncompressing and untarring the compressed tar file in an appropriate directory. After this, users can choose to compile XPM either via "imake" or in a stand-alone format.
