XULRunner

The XULRunner project is an impressive Mozilla runtime package that allows applications to bootstrap XUL+XPCOM technologies just as rich as Thunderbird and Firefox. This software package provides mechanisms to install, upgrade and uninstall these applications with ease. Furthermore, XULRunner is well-equipped with libxul, an excellent solution for embedding Mozilla technologies within other projects and products.

If you're looking to install XULRunner, here's how to do it:

- Start by unpacking the tarball to a brand new directory using tar -xjf xulrunner-1.9.0.4.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2. It's best to use /opt/xulrunner/1.9 as a location
- Next, register XULRunner with the system by running xulrunner --register-global (must be run as root to install for all users) or xulrunner --register-user (to install for one user only).

Uninstalling XULRunner is a breeze:
- From the command prompt, run xulrunner --unregister-global or xulrunner --unregister-user to unregister XULRunner, just as you registered it during installation.
- Remove XULRunner directory.

Installing XUL applications using this software is also a breeze:
- Run the following command in a command prompt: /opt/xulrunner/1.9/xulrunner/xulrunner --install-app ~/Desktop/myapplication.xpi.
- The installed application will show up at /usr/lib/vendor/applicationname.
