If you are looking for a streamlined command line usenet binary file poster, you may want to consider Ypost. This software offers both uuencoding and yEnc encoding posting, as well as the ability to throttle speed and repost segments flexibly.

When I wrote Ypost, it was because I was looking for a posting program that could run under Linux command line. While there was another one available (newspost), it didn't quite meet my needs as it lacked support for yEnc and throttling options. I tried updating newspost and submitted the changes, but eventually, it made more sense for me to write a new system.

I admit my choice to rewrite Ypost was partly motivated by my preference for C++ over C. With C++, there are more features that make the language safer to use, such as automatic destruction. But for those who are comfortable running C-based programs, Ypost is worth giving a try.

The installation process for Ypost is quite simple. As it is a lightweight program, it should not be too difficult to compile and run on most systems. To get started, just type "make" at the command line. Then, when the process is complete, you can easily move the "ypost" executable to any directory you prefer, though I recommend using /usr/local/bin.
