The game allows players to create their characters by selecting from various races, classes, and magic realms, and then run them for days, weeks, or even months to increase experience, collect useful items, and increase other characteristics. The real objective, however, is to prepare for the ultimate challenge of facing the great Serpent of Chaos that lurks deep down in the dungeon.
Players begin their adventure on the town level where they can get supplies, weapons, armor, and magical devices by bartering with shop owners. As they prepare to descend into the dungeon, they must be ready to face fantastic adventures that await them.
To reach level 100, players must first kill Oberon, who lives on level 99 (4950') in the dungeon. A magical staircase appears after defeating him, leading to the level where the Serpent of Chaos waits. Players must be careful not to wander around on level 100 unless they are ready to face the ultimate challenge, as the Serpent has a habit of coming at them across the dungeon to slay them for their impudence.
After killing the Serpent of Chaos and surviving the attempt, players receive the status of WINNER. They can continue to explore and even save the game and play more later, but since they have defeated the toughest creature alive, there is not much point unless they wish to listen to rumors of a powerful ring buried somewhere in the dungeon.
