2xsai is a single-pass software engine designed to resize bitmap images while preserving their quality. Its advanced algorithms are optimized for efficiency, making it a popular choice for scaling graphics in video games and retro game emulators.
2xSaI is a one-pass engine that scales bitmap images by a factor of 2 while trying to maintain the original smoothness and brightness of the original bitmap, effectively reducing blockiness and bluriness to a minimum. The creator of 2xSaI wasn't completely satisfied with Eagle, another good engine with similar goals, and decided to create their own engine from scratch.
Despite borrowing ideas from Dirk Stevens' Eagle Engine, 2xSaI is fundamentally different. Currently used in the dos port of the popular emulator, Snes9x, 2xSaI only processes 16-bit images; however, the engine is likely to process other formats in the future.
In the latest release, the MMX version has been updated to version 0.50. So, if you are tired of low-quality images on your emulator, 2xSaI might be the solution you were looking for.
