A software tool for crossword fans, AardWord allows users to search for words by typing in known letters and using hyphens for unknown letters. The program then generates a list of possible words that fit the provided parameters.
One of the great advantages of AardWord is that it comes with the UK Advanced Cryptics Dictionary (UKACD). This dictionary is specially compiled for crossword enthusiasts and includes over 230,000 entries. The dictionary includes all forms of each word, including plurals, and lists obscure words and phrases such as scientific and medical terms, places, sayings, institutions, and titles.
Using AardWord is incredibly easy. You simply type in the letters you already know, and AardWord will generate a list of possible matches for you. For instance, if you enter the letters "--A-PL-", AardWord will give you eight possible word matches, including "EXAMPLE", "GRAPPLE", "KNAPPLE", "REAPPLY", "SCAPPLE", "SHARPLY", "TRAMPLE", and "WHAMPLE". With this dictionary tool, you'll never be stuck on a crossword puzzle again.
