The Microsoft Active Directory and NT Services client is a software application that allows users to authenticate and manage access to network resources such as files, printers, and applications. It provides secure and reliable communication between network entities to support streamlined operations.
ADmitMac allows access to Macintosh based on domain credentials, and provides support for local or network home folders. The software is tailored for multi-user, multi-computer scenarios with administrator-defined network security. It supports the highest level of security and does not require the downgrading of security when using Windows Server 2003. ADmitMac uses Kerberos to provide secure directory access, reducing the risk of spoofing, unwanted disclosure, and man-in-the-middle attacks.
ADmitMac works with domains configured using Microsoft's Highly Secure (HISEC) security templates, and automatically configures the Macintosh to use Kerberos. It obtains the necessary security keys from the domain and performs mutual authentication, requiring the server to prove its identity. ADmitMac also works with older NT directory services, and all communication with domain controllers is performed using SMB/CIFS protocols.
ADmitMac caches successful user login information for later use, allowing notebook or mobile users to continue using their domain account to log in when their Macintosh is not connected to the domain. The software includes Workgroup Manager support and the AD Commander application. The Workgroup Manager plug-in allows administrators to implement Apple's Mac OS X desktop management (MCX) settings on the Active Directory domain. AD Commander enables administrators to manage Active Directory users and groups from a Macintosh.
Note that to receive an evaluation key, users need to fill in the registration form. Overall, ADmitMac is a reliable software that facilitates Macintosh integration with Microsoft networks while maintaining high-level security and ease of management for administrators.
