Advertnet software allows efficient management of multiple advertising boards networks and can be integrated with SecondLife.
In terms of dependencies, Advertnet requires a MySQL 5.0 database and a Second Life environment in order to function properly. After downloading and installing MySQL, users must create three separate databases: advertnet_development, advertnet_test, and advertnet_production. The default "config/database.yml" is pre-configured to use the "root" account without a password, but users are encouraged to eventually edit it to change the login or add a password. For example, users can create a new user (e.g. advertnet) and grant it read/write access for select, insert, update, create table, drop table, alter table, etc. within the three databases.
To complete basic MySQL configuration, users should run the following commands as root (e.g. on a Debian system): "for i in development test production ; do mysqladmin -u root create advertnet_$i ; done." After this step, users will need to create SQL tables from Advertnet's root directory using the following command prompts: "rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=development" and "rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=production."
In order to confirm that the Advertnet application is running smoothly, users should run the following commands: "rake db:test:prepare" followed by "rake test." Please note that while there is at least one unit test that is known to fail, other unit tests and all functional tests should pass without any issue.
The latest release of Advertnet includes several updates, including more precise installation instructions, links to the Advertnet website and project sponsors, and other general improvements. Overall, Advertnet is an effective tool for managing multiple advertising networks and streamlining the process of advertising board configuration in SecondLife.
