Aiee! is a software that facilitates text adventure games.
To run Aiee!, you'll need the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), version 1.4 or later. If you're on Unix, you can start the game by running "./aiee.sh". If you want to customize your experience, you can call Aiee! from the command line to change the size of the game window, play in text mode, or send logging to a different file.
The latest release of Aiee! has several improvements and bug fixes. You can now take multiple items at once with commands like "take dagger, armor, and torch". Text wrapping has been improved so you won't have to format text manually. The game now differentiates between "r" (ready/remove toggle), "ready", and "remove". Encumbrance is listed in the inventory, and container contents no longer count against your weight limit. Exits declared visible are now correctly listed, and the adventure file list is now sorted for ease of use. Scoring has been fixed so $(_scorebase) contains the permanent score, and $(_score) has the current score. Menus no longer show up in uppercase without uppercase options. The release also includes preparation for a GUI adventure generator, which generates valid XML identical to the input when using -dump.
Overall, Aiee! is a great tool for anyone who loves text adventures or wants to create their own games. It's easy to use, flexible, and constantly improving.
