Alexandria is a software tool designed in GNOME environment that assists users in organizing and keeping track of their book collection effectively.
One of Alexandria's key features is its ability to retrieve and display book information, including cover pictures, from several online libraries like Amazon, Proxis, Barnes and Noble, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and Amadeus Buch. Additionally, it allows users to add and update books manually and perform searches by EAN/ISBN, title, author, or keyword.
Alexandria also saves data using the YAML format and can import/export data into ONIX, Tellico, and EAN/ISBN-list formats. It generates customizable XHTML web pages from your library and allows you to mark books as loaned with the loan date and borrower name.
This application features an HIG-compliant user interface and lets you view books in different ways (standard list or icons list), filter and sort them, and handle book ratings and notes. It supports CueCat barcode readers and includes translations for several languages.
To use Alexandria, you need to have Ruby, Ruby/Amazon, Ruby-GetText, Ruby/Libglade2, Ruby/Gnome2, Ruby/GdkPixbuf2, and Ruby/GConf2 installed. The latest version (0.6.3) is a maintenance release that brings greater overall stability, a more responsive user interface, and bug fixes.
