ALT Linux Junior is a recently released GNU/*/Linux distribution in the Junior lineup by the company.
The software offers a few meaningful modifications compared to its previous version. This includes support for evening-out fonts in most graphical environments and a single interface for system object control. The latest versions of Mozilla, OpenOffice.org and other convenient office and internet applications are included, along with increased multimedia capabilities, such as audio and video file playing.
Junior 2.2 comes with two complementary discs. The second disc includes useful development tools, such as compilers and interpreters for the most common programming languages and integrated development environments.
To run the software, the system requirements are quite modest. The processor needs to be Pentium-compatible or higher, with a minimum of 64 MB of RAM (recommended). If the system has only 32 MB of RAM, then CD installation will only be possible. The hard drive should be at least 630 MB (with 1 GB recommended).
This software supports today's most advanced motherboards, as well as other common motherboards, including VIA KT266, ApolloPro266, VIA KT333, Intel 845 and 850, and AMD 760 chipsets. In addition, 3D acceleration is supported with the use of SSE optimization and 3DNow! for Matrox series G, ATI Rage, ATI Radeon, and Intel 810/815 graphic adapters, whereas the entire range of NVIDIA video cards is supported with the use of the commercial driver.
Overall, we believe that the ALT Linux Junior 2.2 program is a fully-developed and user-friendly GNU/*/Linux distribution, which is distributed in specialized OEM versions, or compact DVD packages.
