AmaroK XUL Remote is a script for amaroK that enables users to operate amaroK from any Firefox browser within their network.
With the basic player manipulation features, you can easily control the music playback by pausing or stopping the track, skipping to the next or previous song, seek for a specific point in a song and adjust the volume. The playlist view is another key feature of this tool, allowing you to view various playlists and select specific tracks to play.
The collection browser is comprehensive, with built-in filtering and the ability to support compilations. Additionally, you can drag and drop tracks, albums and artists from the collection to the playlist.
For installation, you'll need to have python 2.3, pydcop (python DCOP bindings), amaroK 1.3, and Firefox deer park (tested 1.5 beta1) installed. Once you download the archive, you can install and run it with the AmaroK script manager, and then install the extension on Firefox. After installing the extension, simply restart Firefox and launch "AmaroK remote" in the Firefox "Tools" menu.
One of the most exciting parts of the update includes the extension having two options: host and port. Both these options utilize the same hostname and port (8888) used to install the extension. Moreover, the update features a new option, allowing you to open the remote in a tab. Additionally, the update also enables you to disable launch by KDE session manager (closes #1614228), improving the overall user experience.
Overall, I found AmaroK XUL Remote to be an excellent tool with powerful features that make it a must-have software for any Firefox or amaroK user.
