An update for the Apple Font Manager that addresses various font-related issues in OS 8.6.
Under certain circumstances, the Font Manager in Mac OS 8.6 may create a corrupt resource inside some applications or fonts. This, unfortunately, renders fonts with corrupted resources useless and can cause crashing third-party font management tools. Fortunately, the Update prevents the creation of these corrupt resources and eliminates any future problems.
But that's not all. In Mac OS 8.6, the height of characters in Apple's Japanese and Traditional Chinese fonts is one pixel shorter than in Mac OS 8.5. This, of course, can lead to issues displaying, editing, or printing text accurately. The Font Manager Update remedies this, making sure your text appears as it should.
It's important to note that while the Update prevents the Font Manager from creating corrupt FOND resources, it will not correct or remove any previously corrupted resources. To repair damaged files, you must use the Font First Aid utility included in the update.
All in all, if you're running Mac OS 8.6 and having issues with the Font Manager, the Font Manager Update is a necessary addition. It's only requirement is that you're running North American English Mac OS 8.6.
