The software enhances and redefines application behavior.
APE modules loaded into applications perform necessary modifications on the launched application memory space, such as redefining the minimize window action or customizing the standard Apple menu. These modules never touch any files on disk, and they utilize a set of functions defined in the Application Enhancer framework.
If you are concerned whether Application Enhancer might crash your system, we have taken several measures to ensure your applications' safety. There are a number of technologies incorporated into our products that attempt to make sure your applications are safe. For example, we have integrated Haxie CrashGuard, a feature that ensures the application is not modified if it has recently crashed, and APE Check, which makes sure no damaged APE modules are loaded. Also, all of our products undergo tedious beta testing to ensure that they work as expected.
Regarding performance, Application Enhancer can increase the application launch time due to more code being loaded at the launch time (usually in the range of 40-60 ms per Application Enhancer module loaded on a modern Mac). However, once loaded, most Application Enhancer modules remain latent and do not slow down your system. We are continuously improving the technology behind Application Enhancer to optimize performance, and we recommend running the latest versions of our products.
Overall, the Application Enhancer system has been in research and development for over two years, and many of our products are now effectively utilizing it to enhance and redefine various applications' behavior on your system.
