Auto-autofs is a Perl tool utilizing the /proc path to seek out block devices in the hardware.
Moreover, the program creates an HTML file with all devices listed, allowing for easy partition mounting and unmounting via clickable links. Some key features of Auto autofs include IDE and SCSI block device recognition through /proc, partition detection, file system and disk size detection via fdisk.
The program also assigns devices appropriate names such as cdrom or cdwriter, among others. In the case of multiple devices, names are numbered, such as cdrom1, cdrom2, etc. The program is also capable of giving devices aliases and supports volume or partition labels for various file systems including ext2, ext3, udf, isofs, reiserfs, ntfs and vfat, among others.
Other salient features include support for audio and video CDROMs, IDE-SCSI emulation, configurable commands, 32x32 or 16x16 KDE icons, ISO and loopback file support, and the addition of devices as QuickBrowser to the KDE panel. The program is fully customizable and comes with automatic configuration and symbolic links creation (/dev/cdrom --> /dev/scd0). Finally, the program offers internationalization support.
In the latest release, some KDE elements have been removed, syntax for index.html has changed, default access rights updated, and several bug fixes implemented. Overall, Auto-autofs is an efficient and effective Perl script for auto-mounting with numerous customizable properties and features.
