AVI TV Episode File Resizer allows users to resize Xvid TV episode files to fit an entire season onto one DVD. This software is designed to make efficient use of storage space and simplify the process of organizing TV show collections.
The project was specifically created to accommodate multiple Xvid TV episodes by setting standardized video bitrates based on each episode's hours, minutes, and seconds. This way, users can achieve the desired file size easily. Even with variations in the episodes' length, the script can still generate results with only about 10 seconds of discrepancy in file size.
It's essential to input the correct time to attain the expected file size. Additionally, since the new files have the same name as the old ones, users must keep them in separate directories. The "input files" selector allows users to encode one or multiple files at once, but this can take hours to complete, depending on each file's length.
To REencode, the script uses single pass and MP3 audio bitrate of 96 kbps, and the Xvid4 codec increases video bitrate. The results are impressive, with a significant decrease in file sizes. For example, one user went from 230MB to 175MB, saving nearly 1.4G on a single DVD.
Expect the process to take approximately ten hours for an entire season (25 episodes) with an episode time of 25 min 30 sec and a target file size of 171MB (ending up at about 174.8MB).
The requirements for the script include transcode and xvid codecs. The latest version of the script now includes selectable quality options with Best and Good quality. The former has a slower encoding process, but it's worth the wait for achieving very low file sizes (e.g., from 350 to 171 MB in a 45-minute video) with excellent results. The latter option, Good, is useful for users only looking to knock off 30-40 MB off a 350 MB or more substantial file, and it needs less encoding time.
